Summer Safety Tips from TSVA!

- 1:47 pm - June 14th, 2023

As a truck driver, each change of season presents a new set of obstacles for you to deal with. The best way to face these seasonal challenges is to prepare for them in advance. With the arrival of summer, Truck Service of Virginia wanted to make a list of specific tips and tricks truck drivers can use to help make your summer go smoother and safer.

Tips to stay cool & safe this summer:

  1. Hydration is Key: Summer heat can be intense, so make sure to stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water throughout your shifts. Dehydration can lead to fatigue and decreased focus.

  1. Plan Your Breaks Wisely: Schedule your breaks during the hottest parts of the day to avoid prolonged exposure to extreme temperatures. Find shaded areas or air-conditioned rest stops to cool down and recharge before hitting the road again.

  1. Check Your Tires: Hot weather can increase tire pressure, so make sure to regularly inspect and adjust tire pressure according to the manufacturer's recommendations.

  1. Plan for Traffic: Summertime often means increased traffic, especially near popular vacation destinations. Stay up-to-date with traffic reports and plan your routes accordingly to avoid unnecessary delays and frustration.

  1. Stay Alert for Wildlife: Wildlife activity tends to increase during the summer months. Be cautious when driving through rural or wooded areas, as animals may unexpectedly cross the road.

Remember, safety should always be the top priority, so adjust your driving habits and take necessary precautions to ensure a safe and enjoyable summer season on the road. Contact us for more information.
